Mesh and Steel Fibre Reinforced Concrete Slabs

Steel fibre reinforced (SFRC) and mesh reinforced concrete floors and slabs for internal and external use, built to the engineer's design.

Mesh and Steel Fibre Reinforced Slabs by Concast

The reinforcement in a slab controls cracking and spreads load. We build both traditional mesh reinforced slabs, with the mesh fixed on spacers at the right cover, and steel fibre reinforced concrete slabs, where the fibres are mixed through the concrete.

Steel fibre reinforced concrete removes the need to fix and walk on mesh, which can speed up a large pour and suits floors with high point loads. Mesh remains the right choice for many external slabs and suspended areas. We build to whichever the engineer specifies and can talk through the options at pricing stage.

What the work includes

Mesh reinforced slabs

Mesh fixed on spacers at the specified cover before the pour.

Steel fibre (SFRC)

Steel fibres mixed through the concrete for internal floors.

Thickened edges

Edge and joint details formed to the engineer's drawings.

Membranes

Slip and damp proof membranes laid on the prepared sub-base.

Internal and external

Reinforced slabs for buildings, canopies, yards and aprons.

Ground beams and slabs

Slabs cast with ground beams and edge details in one sequence.

Frequently asked questions

What is a steel fibre reinforced slab?

Steel fibres are mixed into the concrete before it is placed, so the reinforcement is spread through the whole slab rather than sitting in one layer of mesh. It is widely used for warehouse and industrial floors.

Should our floor be mesh or steel fibre reinforced?

That is set by the structural engineer from the loads and the floor design. We build either and can discuss the practical differences when we price.

Do you lay reinforced slabs outside?

Yes. We lay reinforced slabs for yards, aprons and canopies as well as inside buildings.

Do you fix the reinforcement yourselves?

Yes. Our team fixes the mesh and edge reinforcement on spacers ahead of the pour.
